Excavating the Future

I’m sitting here on my couch, with my beautiful wife next to me, and my beautiful daughter cooing and smiling to her heart’s content, watching Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. I’m pretty sure that I couldn’t be happier. I’m also pretty sure I’ll remember this moment forever. God Bless America.

We recently got a new camera to take better pictures of Avery. Lest I lose track of it in the future, I wanted to link here to an article in a recent Outside magazine about various photography tricks used by the pros to take cool-looking pictures. If you’re a photo-geek, then it’s a pretty neat read.

And, since I know my core audience doesn’t care at all about photo tricks, but only wants to see pictures of my daughter, here are a few more, taken with various friends and relatives (and yes, that picture with Ryan was the single best picture of all those taken while he was holding Avery!):

You know, everyone warns you in advance that parenting is a lot of work, and that you won’t have time for anything else. But it’s hard to really appreciate just how much work it is, until you’re actually doing it. So, a week late, here are some of the pictures of Avery’s homecoming. I’ll be trying to put up a few pictures every night, but we’ll see how well I do.

In fact, she’s been home since Tuesday afternoon. We weren’t expecting her to be discharged until Wednesday, but we luckily had the carseat with us and were able to bring her home. Of course, she’s doing her best now to keep us completely exhausted!

I’ll put up pictures of her at home in a day or two, but I thought I’d first share pictures of some of the many visitors that she received while in the NICU. She appreciated all of the love, and can’t wait to see all of you again! Her parents, on the other hand, have barricaded the doors and turned off the phones. We’ll see who wins… )
